How this started.

I'm Ivo Janssen. I produce and mix pop, and I started ModulTone because I wanted better ways to shape the stereo image without turning it into a project.

The problem kept coming back in the same shape. A chorus that should open up sat in the same space as the verse, and the tools I reached for either did nothing I could hear or came apart the moment I checked in mono. Saturators and compressors treated the whole file as one signal, so whatever they did to the sides they did to the vocal and the kick in the middle as well.

So I built my own, starting with MS Saturator: driving the mid and side channels separately gave that chorus somewhere to go.

MS Widener followed, free, because it's the plugin I wanted back when I couldn't afford to be picky. The rest followed one rule: mid and side are two signals, so they get two sets of controls.

Everything gets tested on mixes I'm being paid for, changed when it gets in the way, and released when it does the thing it's supposed to do. That's the whole process.
