In Mid/Side mode this runs eight compressors: four bands wide on the centre and four on the sides, each with its own threshold, ratio and timing. The band around 120 Hz can squeeze the mid hard and leave the sides alone, which is where the low end goes when the bass is fighting a wide synth. Four bands, crossovers at 120 Hz, 800 Hz and 5 kHz to start, and a Stereo Multiband mode for when the mix doesn't need the split.

Stereo Multiband
Four compressors across four bands, working on the left and right channels together. The ordinary multiband, for when the problem is a frequency range and not a position in the stereo field.
Mid/Side
Eight compressors. Every band's mid and side carry a full independent parameter set, so a band can be held down in the centre and left open at the edges, or the reverse.
What it does
- Four bands with movable Linkwitz-Riley crossovers, defaulting to 120 Hz, 800 Hz and 5 kHz
- Two processing modes: Stereo Multiband runs four compressors, Mid/Side runs eight
- Independent threshold, ratio, attack, release and makeup per band, per channel
- Attack and release in real milliseconds, set directly, because eight bands snapping to a sparse switch grid made the same knob mean different things in different places
- Solo, mute and bypass per band, so you can hear one band's work on its own
- External sidechain, switchable per band and per channel: the mid of one band can be keyed while its side is not
- Lookahead up to 10 ms, with the latency reported honestly to the host, converted back from the oversampled rate before it reaches the delay compensation
- Oversampling at 2x or 4x wraps the whole engine, ballistics included, not just the output stage
- There is no character switch. Earlier builds carried MS Comp's four circuits over, which came to eight of them across four bands, and picking a circuit per band is not a decision a mix engineer makes. One circuit governs every band now: RMS detection, a wide 10 dB knee, and a release that stretches with the amount of reduction

How to use it
- Multiband compression on the mix bus
A full-band compressor lets the kick decide what happens to the vocal. Splitting it into bands fixes that, and adding mid/side fixes what bands alone can't.
